Garage Door Openers

Garage door openers are electric engines that are connected to a track that is likewise connected to the garage door. There is a mechanical drive in the track, either a belt, chain, or screw, that is directly connected to the door and when engaged opens or closes the door depending on its position. The unit is attached to the ceiling and can be activated by a wired button or a remote control.

Garage door openers allow a driver to easily enter and exit their garage without having to get out of their car and close the door manually. There are a number of other features as well, such as a light that automatically comes on and turns off after a certain time period. Sensors six inches from the floor project a beam that when broken will immediately open the door. Safety features are important as the door is the largest moving object in a house.

Garage door openers can be found at hardware stores and online. They are relatively easy to install without any professional help, but it is important to make sure the counterbalance spring is working correctly and has the right amount of tension. The excessive weight of the door can be fatal and children should never be allowed to play underneath the frame.
