Garage Door Openers FAQs
What are some interesting uses for garages other than parking a car?
The majority of people who have a garage don’t actually park their car in it. Most simply use it for storage of accumulated goods, tools, and discarded items. They can quickly become more like a vintage boutique than a useful place to park a car or work, but why park a car in their anyway? They can be converted to play rooms just by adding a ping pong table. They make an excellent workshop, and many people actually furnish them and seal them turning them into an extra room. One of my favorite ideas is using the garage as a movie theatre. Simply add a screen and projector, some comfy chairs, a good movie and plenty of snacks. There may be more insulation and work required but it is worth it for the extra space.
What are the largest parking garages and lots in the world?
The largest parking garage in the world is located in West Edmonton can handle 20,000 cars but it is a combination of a lot and a garage. Seattle Airport parking garage can handle 13,000 cars making it the largest single structure, but Universal Studios has two massive structures next to each other that handle 7,000 cars each. A 40,000 space parking garage is being built in Dubai which will be the largest once it is completed. It costs roughly $15,000 per space on average to build a parking garage.
What is the most interesting parking garage?
Some of the most interesting parking garages are entirely robotic and automatic. Instead of driving into a structure and parking your car yourself you simply drive the vehicle onto a platform. The platform is actually an elevator and once you exit the car it raises or lowers the car, moves it to an available stall and inserts the car which is still on the platform into the stall. This is all done completely automatically and takes about as long as jukebox takes to change a record. The space for parking can be doubled with this method and it is even exiting to watch. Currently there are structures like this in Germany, New York, Dubai and soon there will be many more.
