Garage Door Security

Garage door security is often overlooked while people install expensive top of the line security systems in their home. It is also one of the first places that would be burglars try to gain access to. Inside the garage is the most expensive possession that most people own and it is also the easiest to drive away.  Not only that but there are often tools stored in the garage that can be used to break into the house.

Garage door security starts with having an area that is not enticing for thieves. This involves keeping the lights off inside the garage at night and if there are windows put drapes on them or one way glass. This simple step keeps valuables out of view. The next step is to have a high quality garage door opener. They are encrypted and often work better than a door lock. An added manual locking mechanism can be added for even greater protection.

Garage door security can be as simple as placing a lock through the tracks over the rollers for the maximum amount of garage security. A burglar would have to break down the door to get in and they will likely find another place to rob or simply go home and change their ways. Keeping ladders locked up also helps as many thieves use the homeowner’s ladder to gain entry on a second floor window.
