Garage Door Track

A garage door track is the grooved piece of metal that guides the rollers up and down. The rollers are attached to the door panels. The track is installed roughly six inches from the inside wall of the opening all the way up to the ceiling where it curves and follows along the ceiling for at least the length of the door.

The garage door track is typically made of galvanized steel which is cheap and durable. Many manufacturers apply a thin layer of polyurethane inside the track to allow the rollers to roll quieter and smoother. Often the rollers will be coated as well to make the opening and closing of the door even more silent.

A garage door track can be found at hardware stores and they are typically included in a door kit. They are easy to install and are fairly standardized so the pieces are easy to find. Once they are safely installed the door can be put into place, the springs tensions and the opener installed for a complete set up.
