Insulated Garage Doors
Insulated garage doors have an extra layer of either polystyrene or polyurethane. These not only improve the insulating value of the door but they are also very effective at blocking out sound from the street. The thickness of the material varies from door to door with the best insulated doors sandwich the material between two pieces of galvanized steel.
Insulated garage doors improve the heat retention of the home and allow the garage to be comfortable not only for doing the laundry but also a wide variety of activities. When insulated well they can be converted to rooms, play areas, workshops, and hobby areas. The possibilities are endless and the car can always be parked on the curb.
Insulated garage doors are more expensive than a single layer galvanized steel door, but they more than make up the difference in heating and cooling costs. Most garages are attached to the house and if it is hot or cold in the garage that will transfer slowly to the house which will battle to keep it comfortable inside. This translates into higher heating and cooling bills. Simple things like a bottom weather strip that seals out drafts are a great start.
