Overhead Garage Door
An overhead garage door opener is one of the best ways to get an unwieldy and heavy garage door open. They are installed on the ceiling of the garage so they remain out of the way while the door is open or closed. This makes them slightly more difficult to install and many require a couple of people for some steps. The supports have to be anchored to the frame of the house and this is usually done with angle iron.
An overhead garage door opener actually doesn’t do the work to open the door. Most of the weight is borne by the counterbalance spring which is located at the top of the door. This spring has to be carefully tensioned so the door is not too heavy to open but also remains closed. The opener simply starts and stops the process using a little bit of force.
An overhead garage door is much easier to use than a swinging garage door. They can be opened after a heavy snow which is impossible on a swinging door but the rest of the driveway may be another story. The opener is safely located out of the way so there is no chance of tripping on it or damaging it.
